Random 5 Friday: Snow and a writing partner

I’ve been mixed up on what day it is for the last two weeks, with the holidays messing up the usual order of work and time off. But I checked the calendar, and it’s time for Random 5 Friday, a great meme run by Nancy of A Rural Journal. Click here to visit Nancy and find more bloggers participating.

We do get some snow. This is a snow scene from March 2013. This is our backyard, looking towards Larry's shop and shed.

One
To all of those caught up in snow and windstorms, I hope you are safe and warm. Our part of Virginia will get flurries or sleet mixed with rain, if anything. The way most weather fronts track in this area, we don’t usually get the big snows.
Since Larry and I both love snow, we’re regularly disappointed at the weather forecasts. My solution for this is to move to Wyoming. Larry doesn’t think so.

Two
As I sit and write this Thursday evening, I have a partner helping me: Chase Bird. He doesn’t usually sit in my lap while I work on the computer, but tonight he is. He’s purring and licking my hand.
Maybe he sensed that I was feeling a bit low this evening and needed the TLC. Maybe he wants to use the Internet once I’m off. Whatever, he’s a welcome partner.

Three
Anyone know what “cvhgds” means? That’s what Chase Bird just typed as he put his paws on the keyboard.

Four
As I drove up the driveway today, I saw a feather swirl in the grass beside the car. I haven’t been taking many photos outside lately, so I went inside and got my camera and came out to explore a bit.
I thought this might be a turkey feather. I’ve seen some wild turkeys in the area. Anyone recognize what it is?

Five
It seems so dark outside in the evenings now that most people have taken down their Christmas lights. Too bad we don’t all leave some lights up through the rest of the winter. Inside, I’m going to keep plenty of candles out.

What do you do to bring in more light during the winter?

  1. Make sure you let Chase use the internet when you're done!

  2. Yep, totally agree. Chase has some cat websites he needs to check out when you're done with the computer. Oh, and that word he typed? It means, "Move it, I need to check my e-mail!"

  3. I think chase Bird wrote I love you :-), I do not know what bird that beautiful feather fell from, it brings Pheasant to mind though. We live in if not a sunny sunny place all year round there is always bright skies. In Canada I lived in a house that we installed 5 6X 6 foot windows along one wall facing south, it was too dark and dreary other wise..maybe I could say I'd knock out a wall and install windows.

  4. Your kitty is so sweet - they do seem to have a sense of when they're needed. I'm chuckling at the thought that the Christmas lights in your neighborhood are mostly down. They'll still be up around here for a few more weeks - and in Vermont, most lights wont come down until April. I've come to the conclusion that in Northern New England the lights are more for brightening up the long winter than for the holidays.

  6. Love your typing partner! My husband would be so jealous of Larry's shop.
This wind is awful. I hope we don't lose electricity.

  9. Oh that is positively a turkey feather I do know that as you know I have many of them pretty things.
I do not get that word Chase Bird is trying to give us but it may be something special.
You can always move to Canada but I have heard Wyoming is nice:0 Have a nice weekend Tina. Hug B

  10. Not sure the feather type, but it is pretty. I hope you get a little snow! Wishing for it down here would be throwing my wishes away; it snows once every twenty years. Our animals always seem to draw closer when I'm feeling blue. Glad you got some extra purrs and warmth from Chase Bird. :) Maybe he was typing for you to cheer up.

  11. How fun that your kitty joined you while you were on the computer, I have no idea what he was trying to say though. - One of my cats likes to do that (all the time) but I get tired of trying to type with a cat on my lap and if I don't stop to pet her now and then she nips my arm, so she gets put down when that happens.
I'm not a snow person so I'm with your hubby on the not moving to Wyoming idea.
    What a gorgeous feather.
I know what you mean about the Christmas lights. When we took ours down the entire yard area seemed so bare and so dark. Takes a few days to get use to it not being there.

  12. Chase bird wrote I love you in Pig Latin...or is that cat Latin? I crave sunshine in the winter. After about three days of gray skies I am pining for more sun.

  13. Fun reading your post, Tina. I think Chase Bird probably has his own language...probably wishes his pals a Happy New Year in kitty cat language. I don't know about that move to Wyoming...I could think of a few other places that have snow that would be more appealing, at least to me!!

  15. i do tend to leave on more lights. probably more than i ever use in the spring & summer. which i know is terrible for our power bill but it makes me happy. i always leave open the curtains & such too. ( :

  16. Oh, I miss my cats sitting on my lap when I am on the computer. Pet Chase Bird once for me. I know that Asta in particular liked trying her paw at typing and she typed some outlandish stuff. The big end of that feather does look rather like a turkey feather but the one's I've found around here are like that to the narrow end too. Still, could be.

  17. What better writing partner than Chase Bird. There are still a lot of Christmas lights up in the neighbourhood. It's quite depressing when people take them down. Then it's just dark, winter, bleh...

  19. My kitties help me a lot ... they are great supervisors ... i haven't been able to translate some of their *work* yet! ;) Love the feather shot and the snow. I do think snow is pretty and can remember living in an area where it snowed. That was very very long ago and was young enough to enjoy it! Stay warm and Happy New Year!

  20. Chase Bird sure is a cutie. I love TexWisGirl's rendition of what Chase Bird typed. I think that was it!

You stay warm, girl. It's so cold out there and we expect even colder weather. That feather is so pretty. I hope you brought it inside. Hey, maybe you could sharp the quill and make a pen. Imagine writing with a feather pen.

  21. Your kitty cat is so sweet. My kitty helps me so much when I feel sad. Let him take care of you.

  22. It's a beautiful feather, but i've no idea what kind of bird it belongs to.

Maybe Chase Bird is waiting to write his own post? Did he sneak a peek at your password? ;)

  23. I think Chase Bird is waiting to get on to "Animal Planet." I'm not a fan of winter, but the snow is pretty. Have a cozy weekend!
