A respite: Trip to the Peaks of Otter

I wrote Monday about the hectic nature of last Saturday, when I had to work a difficult story at the same time as I was enjoying an outing with Larry.
We went up on the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Peaks of Otter.
We didn’t climb any of the mountains, but we did walk around at the Lodge and took photos, then enjoyed a good meal in the dining room while we looked out over the lake and Sharp Top and watched rain pour down.
It was a quiet, peaceful and enjoyable trip.

This is a view of Sharp Top.

Along the path that winds around the lake, I found some wildlife enjoying the flowers.

Part of the path is covered with wooden boards.

The path curved around for another view of Sharp Top.

The path turned to gravel.

The path winds between the lake and trees.

We really liked Sharp Top.

What places do you go to for beauty and peace?

  1. Really pretty pics!

There is a lake less than a 5 minute drive from my house. It has lots of bike and walking paths around it.

My hubby and I also like to drive to the White Mountains about an hour and half north from us. It's so beautiful up there.

  2. Once we hiked up Sharp Top when there was snow on the ground, and I fell so many times on the hike back down. It's pretty up there though!

    1. Lisa, my husband made the comment last week that he'd love to go up there when it's snowing. I hope we can hike up there this fall--that's my goal.

  3. Great pictures, Tina. How fortunate you are to be surrounded by such beauty. We head to the White Mountains when we can, but it's a bit of a trip.

  5. It looks like a place I should be today..so serene. I lived in Virginia..but the wrong part I think because I think I'd have liked it better where you are or can go to on a drive. There is something about a picture of paths or trails..I just want to follow it wherever it goes. We have a trail near where I live and I took a photo of the trail going off into the distance and loved the photo so much I framed it to look at when I need serenity. I also wanted to mention how some of the most beautiful flowers are those I stumble across in the woods. Sometimes I think they might just be weeds, but pretty weeds. I love Queen Anne's Lace and that grows all long side of the country roads here.
Like you, I find peace in nature but I can also feel very peaceful retiring to my bed at night. I get all cozy, tucked in and propped up, pull out my Kindle or a book and I feel super relaxed and at peace. I'm glad I have a place at home where I can do that.

    1. Krystal Lynn, That is such a good idea, to frame the photo of the trail. I love photos of paths/trails, too. I may have to copy you!

I love the wild flowers, too. Queen Anne's Lace is one of my favorites.

  6. Very nice photos, Tina. What a nice outing. I usually go to my garden for a little respite although there's always so much to do, I get very little rest. But then, gardening work IS rest, in a way...

There is a wildlife refuge nearby. It has paved bike trails so sometimes we'll go there. It's always fun. Right now blackberries are in season so we should get over there with our buckets. :)

Hope you have a restful weekend.

    1. Thank you, Grace. That wildlife refuge sounds wonderful. I would definitely be going there if there was one nearby.

When I gardened (flowers), I liked doing the work, too--it was relaxing for me to get my hands in the dirt and concentrate on that for a while.

  7. Glad you had a time of quiet and enjoyment. I kind of lack that a lot of times.

    1. Thanks, Shannon. I don't always take advantage of the times for quiet that I have.

  8. The pictures look beautiful Tina!
We live in a town and have no car and public transport is pretty shocking, so it's not so easy getting somewhere in the weekend. But there is a park nearby that is quite pretty with a fountain which is very restful somehow. There are lots of birds there too. And from the back of our flat we look onto a church and somehow that gives me a very peaceful feeling, even though it's not a church I attend. I felt at home in this flat the moment I saw that view!

    1. Klaaske, I love to look at fountains--I find them restful, too. I think it's the sound of the water flowing that helps me.

How wonderful that you have such a peaceful view from your flat, there every day!
