A quiet winter’s weekend

"Trees in January"

I’ve spent a quiet weekend burrowed inside from the cold. I ventured out only twice, once Saturday and once on Sunday.
It rained all day Sunday. It’s supposed to get warmer through the night, then the arctic air hits Monday (today) and we’ll have wind chills below zero.
It won’t be nearly as bad as many of you in other parts of the country and the world have it, but it will be very cold for this area of Virginia.
Over the weekend, I read a lot. In fact, I finished my first book of 2014, a mystery by John Sandford. Sandford is the pen name for John Camp, a writer who won a Pulitzer as a journalist.
I read the first of the Lucas Davenport series, Rules of Prey. It was not only scary and intense, but well written.
I also took some naps, sat by the fire with Chase Bird, played with him, did some household chores and watched some TV with Larry.
I didn’t do much adventuring this weekend, as you might guess.
I’ve had to come to the realization that the holidays are really over. The extra time off from work, the changes in schedule for the past two weeks—it’s all done, over with. Now it’s back to the usual.
That thought doesn’t appeal to me. But I’m pushing through my reluctance.
I’ve got work to do for the newspaper.
And I will get my business license for the freelance editing this week. I tried to get it last week, but I had missed a step in the process and had to take care of that bit of business first. I look forward to telling you when I’m officially in business.
And there are some other writing projects percolating.
I’ve just got to shake myself out of my semi-stupor and get back into the routine, with my new sense of adventure.

Are you ready to get back into more of a normal routine? Or has that already happened for you?

  1. Hi Tina, even the holidays (for myself) is routine in that I always spend Christmas day with my good friend Linda and her family. This didn't happen this Christmas, though, because there was a mountain of snow in front of my residence, but the snow removal cleared it up the day after Christmas. Oh well, I did my best to enjoy it alone at home and put on some music, cuddled the kitten I am taking care of for some friends who are away and did some much needed things around here.

  2. I'm more than ready to get back into a normal routine...if only the weather would cooperate! Our weathered finally warmed up, so it started raining. A lot. And now the temperature is heading to the freezing mark, which means freezing rain! It is a mess. Stay warm where you are. We're used to the cold. We don't like it, but we're used to it :)

  3. Oh back to normal for both of us but you having that new adventure will surely keep you busy and forget about going back to work and the weather. I am proud of you. Keep warm Tina off to my first day back to work too I think the girls will be very excited to see me. Our weather is the same as you dropping temps fast and windchill. Not going to be a nice day back to work. HUG B

  5. Once you retire you may find that routines don't really change with holidays-at least ours don't. I can remember though when I longed for that first day back to work especially if the holidays had been packed with too much activity, that no longer happens. Your day sounds wonderful, lucky Chase Bird he got a good long dose of you and Larry, maybe CB needs a bit of a rest, LOL, too much love! is there ever...I'm being silly, stay warm and enjoy.

  6. Yes I am finally ready to get back to a regular routine. The holiday season is always such a blur looking back on it. So fast-paced and so much going on.

  7. My daughter was lamenting yesterday that it was back to the grind and she wasn't looking forward to it. I kind of miss the days I was working; at least I had a purpose. Think I might have to remedy that this year. Hope the winter blast isn't too terribly harsh on you. We're in the 20s which I know isn't cold to some, but it is for us.

  8. I'm not sure what my routine is now. After I retired, I spent time traveling and then getting ready for Christmas, more travel, Christmas. Now I really have to get one! Yours is sounding rather divine. (We've been hunkered down in the blizzard here.)

  10. Semi- stupor? I know that one. I'm a procrastinator. It was minus 31 C(minus 22 F) here yesterday. I did go out in the yard several times and was going to go for a walk in the evening until a long phone call made it too late.

  16. No, no I don't want to go back to a normal routine!! My hubby was home with me for 16 straight days. We haven't been together that long in almost 14 years. It was awesome and I already miss him like crazy.

  17. I got out this morning and that got me back to "things to do" now that New Years is come and gone. It was actually a good feeling and enjoyed some crafty inspiration at Michael's. This could be the month when I sign up for the long delayed crocheting class. Keep cozy!

  19. I am so ready to get back to a routine! We have been traveling and return home tomorrow. Unfortunately, we have spent much of our vacation handling legal problems and face more when we get hoe, so I'm not sure when we'll get back to a "real" routine.
