The occasional Saturday photo: Kitty finds a place to nap

Chase Bird curls up inside his stool for a Saturday afternoon kitty nap.

Where do you like to take naps?

  1. Aw, such a cutie! He looks very huggable.

I love when it is very sunny outside. Then I go sit in my living room on my comfy couch with my kindle. Then around 2-3 o'clock, I get sleepy and take a little nap. LOVE that! Especially when my little kitty sleeps on my lap at the same time.

A sleeping kitty helps me sleep--just watchinig them makes me sleepy!

  2. Hi Tina, I have OCD and two cats who I love dearly, however since having a baby six months ago I have been obsessing about them being in the house as I am scared of them giving my baby a disease and go round cleaning up after them which drove my husband so mad that he now says they have to live outside in the shed! I love my cats dearly and it breaks my heart to see them outside all the time, I was just wondering how you get on with this? does it bother you at all? or is infection control not an aspect of you OCD?

    1. Flossie, I'm so sorry you're having these issues! I also have contamination symptoms with my OCD. A lot of it was taken care of with medication, but it was not until I adopted my first cat that I really was able to stop obsessing over cleanliness as much as I had been. I know that sounds strange--getting an animal helped my contamination OCD--but it did. Taking care of another creature and caring so much for her helped me to be able to clean up after her without compulsively recleaning.

My husband does a great deal to help with the cats. He cleans the litter boxes and does a lot of the feeding and washing of the bowls. We both clean up any messes they leave behind. I think a combination of medication and pushing through the cleaning when I first got a cat have helped me tremendously.

I understand your concerns about your baby. Maybe you could let the cats in for short periods of time and fight the urge to compulsively clean up after them, and build up from there? I think babies and cats can co-exist if basic cleanliness is observed.

    2. Thanks Tina, my husband also does a lot of cleaning for me and luckly I have cat flap so no litter trays. Going to start letting the female cat in first for short periods after all we all had cats when we were little and I am still here and research shows that people who have cats live longer! Will try it, have to start pushing my comfort zone out.

  4. So cute!

I take names on my cozy sofa... ahhh... I may take one this afternoon since I've had insomnia for about 3 nights.

  6. Oh Tina I just love this picture of your cat!
I usually lie down on the bed for an afternoon nap if I have to, and somehow, no matter where my cat is, she hears this, because the moment I put my head down she is there with me. Purring right next to my head, even when I don't stroke her. I just love it!

  7. Great photo! I love how photogenic most kitties are. I also admire how cats can nap anywhere and any time....I seek to emulate them ;-).

    1. Thanks, Rebecca. If a cat is ready to nap, he or she will do it no matter what.

  8. Such a cute picture. I love my bed, it is super cozy, but I hardly ever nap there. I hardly ever nap because if I do, it affects me falling asleep at night. I have some major sleeping issues. But if I wake up really early and do need a quick nap I do it on our sofa.

  9. I take a nap - at least in the past few days - while sitting on the train to my college. I sit in there for almost an hour and sometimes I am not completely awake so early in the morning. I know it's not that good and I'll hope that I'll never miss my station, but sometimes I just fall asleep for some minutes. I also take some naps on my bed - but only when I'm sick or when it's late in the evening and I'm watching TV.

The cat of a friend of mine likes to jump into plastic bags - looks as cute as your cat.
