The occasional Saturday photo: The tree

“Why are there trees I never walk under but large and melodious thoughts descend upon me?” Walt Whitman

“There are rich counsels in the trees.” Herbert P. Horne

“What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another.” Mahatma Gandhi

I love trees. What is your favorite part of the natural world?

  1. I love flowers. I love trees, too. I have two really big trees in my front yard. I think most people would think they are too big and want to trim them down, but I LOVE them! They provide incredible shade and privacy from our neighbors across the street and they are so pretty and a home for tons and tons of birds. I also love water.

    1. Your trees sound lovely. We have large oaks in our front yard, and I love to watch the squirrels scampering around them.

    1. I like the way the 4 seasons are shown in the trees, too, especially in the fall with the gorgeous change in colors.

  4. Like Elizabeth said, trees are my favorite in every season. Here in Iowa we get beautiful fall foliage that can take my breath away. In the Winter we have about 8 HUGE evergreen trees (or Christmas trees as I like to call them) and when the snow is on them it is gorgeous. I have a favorite tree I sit under during the Spring & Summer to read or relax. It gives me lovely shade and is on a small hill that gets a nice breeze. I think of it as our late dog, Zoe Rose's, tree because she always laid under it. In her last days I put a blanket under the tree and I would lay with her under it, give her a belly and ear massage and tell her what a good dog she was and how much our family loved her. We don't have one in our yard but Weeping Willows are my favorite tree.

    1. Krystal Lynn, I love that you have a tree that you think of as your dog's. It sounds like such a restful and peaceful place.

      Evergreens with snow are gorgeous!

  5. Trees and mountains are my favorite. When I see trees being cut down to make room for buildings, I get a sick feeling. My family knows how much this bothers me and will change a driving route for me just to avoid "tree massacres!"

    1. Janet, that bothers me to no end, too. I think of the animal habitats destroyed along with the trees, and it makes me sad.

  6. The sea is definitely my favourite. Even though I'm scared of water. But walking on the beach is such a wonderful experience, just love it!
